Washington CeaseFire and the Washington CeaseFire Foundation (collectively, "CeaseFire," "we," "us," or "our") respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information that you may provide to us while using our website.
1. SCOPE OF THIS POLICY
This privacy policy ("policy") explains how CeaseFire uses, collects, and discloses your personal information with respect to your use of our website located at www.washingtonceasefire.org. This Policy does not apply to the practices of organizations, entitites, or persons over whom CeaseFire does not exercise control, such as third-party contributors, partners, other users, all of which may be accessible via a link on our Site. From time-to-time, CeaseFire may add new web sites that may not be listed above, but they will provide a link to this Policy and will be governed by its terms. Such web sites included in the definition of the "Site," as that term is used in this Policy.
2. PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We may collect various types of information about you , including personal information and anonymous or aggegate data. Personal information means information that specifically identifies you, such as your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address. We may collect personal information that you voluntarily provide while visiting the Site or participating in certain activities on the Site, including, but not limited to, when you:
- Join or renew your membership to CeaseFire.
- Make a contribution to support CeaseFire.
- Sign up for our e-mail network.
- Send correspondence to your government representatives through the Site.
- Register for or participate in our forums or message boards.
- Participate in one of our online surveys.
- Participate in any activity that requires your personal information.
Personal information does not include aggreagate information, which is data we collect about the use of the Site or categories of such users and uses, from which personal information has been removed. Aggregate data is used for a number of purposes, such as to help us understand the needs and preferences of users of the Site. Aggregate data will not be linked to any of your personal information through cookies or other means, without your consent. This type of anonymous, aggregated profiling and session data may include information that you have provided to us through surveys, questionnaires, polls, etc., but will not be tied to any personal information, without your consent. It may also include anonymous, aggregated information about site usage and our membership base.
In certain cases, CeaseFire may automatically collect certain non-personal informaiton about your use of the Site. CeaseFire might collect, among other things, information concerning the type of internet browser or operating system you are using, the domain name of your internet service provider, your "click path" through the Site, and the website or advertisement that was linked to or from the site when you visited. To do this, CeaseFire may use cookies and other technology (see below). Your visits to the Site, and information provided through these technologies, will be anonymous, unless you privde us with personal information or have provided such information in the past.
If we collect information from you off-line and it is linked with personal information, we will treat that information as personal information.
3. USES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use your personal information for various purposes:
- To allow you to join or renew your membership in CeaseFire.
- To fulfill any request or participate in any activity for which you specifically provided the personal infromation, including, without limitation, participation in internet forums or message boards.
- To send you newsletters, action alerts, and similar notices and information regarding CeaseFire and its activities, unless you have opted out of receiving such notices and information.
- To personalize the content that you see at the Site based on the activities in which you participate on the Site.
- To allow you to set and change user preferences at the Site.
- To offer you other ways to support CeaseFire, including, in some limited cases, solicitations for additional contributions.
- To confirm any contribution that you might make to CeaseFire.
- Enable you to participate in surveys and questionnaires.
- Respond to your emails, submissions, comments, requests, or complaints.
The Site is hosted by servers in the United States. Accordingly, if you are located outsied of the United States, he personal information you provide to us will be transferred to he United States. By submitting your personal information to us at the Site, you consent to its transfer and storage in the United States and its use in accordance with the purposes for which it was originally collected (see below regarding third-party sharing of personal information from non-U.S. residents).
If you are a U.S. resident, we may also from time-to-time combine your personal information with some publicly available data collected from third parites, to improve our services to you and for our own internal marketing, communications, and fundraising purposes.
4. SHARING OF INFORMATION
We may share your personal information with third-party service providers, consultant, and vendors who fulfill your orders or requests, contact you on our behalf, or facilitate some other aspect of the Site acitivities or services, including those third-party service providers we use to assist us in our own fundraising efforts. Thes wervice providers have access to your personal information solely for the purpose of providing these services to us on our behalf, and they are contractually prohibited from sharing your personal information iwth any other third parties.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, we do not share data from non-U.S. residents with any other third parties (except whree required by law), even if a non-U.S. resident has subsequently authorized such use, for example, by not checking an opt-in request.
We may also share the peronal information of members and donors who are U.S. residents with other non-profit organizations and publications ("Sharing Organizations"), but never to any partisan political groups or to groups whose programs are incompatible with our policies. We never give your personal infromation directly to the Sharing Organizations. Instead, we send the list to a third-party service provider that prepares the mailing for the Sharing Organization (and that is contractually bound to use your personal information only for this purpose and not to share it with any other third parties). The Sharing Organizations never see our list and never know what names are on it, unless you respond to the Sharing Organizations' mailing. Exchanging lists enables CeaseFire to expand our membership base. However, if you have signed up as a member or contributor to CeaseFire on the Site, you can choose to opt out of having your data shared. To learn more, read the section on "Your Ability to Choose" below.
Finally, regardless of where you reside, we may share your information with third parties if we have a good faith belief that the disclosure is necessary or appropriate to comply with law or legal process; to protect and defend the rights and property or personal safety of CeaseFire, our members, our contributors, or the public; to prevent and protect CeaseFire and our users, members, and contributors from fraudulent, abusive or unlawful conduct or unauthorized use of the Site; or to otherwise enforce our rights and agreements.
Except as described in this Policy, we will not share your personal information with any third party, unless we first notify you and offer you an appropriate choice to consent to such further use, for example, through an opt-out or opt-in request.
5. USE OF COOKIES, IP ADDRESSES, AND WEB BEACONS
The Site, and some services that may be available on our Site, may contain "cookies." A cookie is a piece of data that is sent to your web browser, which stores the cookie on your computer's hard drive ("Long-Term Cookies") or temporarily to your computer's Random Access Memory, or RAM ("Session Cookies") if your browser is enabled to accept cookes. Clear gifs (or web beacons) assist in the delivery of cookies. We may use cookies, clear gifs, frames, server log analysis, and other technology to customize your experience with our Site. Most internet browsers will allow you to erase cookies from your hard drive, block acceptance of cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. If you block cookies, some portions of the Site, or the services available on the Site, may not function properly.
We use Long-Term Cookies only when you select a "remember" option on the Site, for example the "remember my login" option offered when you log on to the Site, or the "remember me" option on the Write Your Elected Representative page. If you select these options a Long-Term Cookie will be stored on your computer's hard drive solely for the purpose of automatically filling in the rmembered information, for example, automatically filling in your passowrd when you log in to the Site or your postal address when you write a leter to your representative. These "remember" options are offered only for your convenience and are completely voluntary. If you do not select a "remember"option, no Long-Term Cookie will be stored on your computer's hard drive.
We use Session Cookies whenever you visit the site to run the Site's interactive applications. Session Cookies last only as long as your Session on the Site. They expire when the session ends and are not written onto your computer's hard drive. We also use Session Cookies in e-mails containing the HTML-format online newsletter. If you select "text-only" format for the online newsleter, it will not contain any Session Cookies.
6. PROTECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION
We strive to protect personal information while it is under our control. If any account information belonging to you is available online through the Site, it is accessible online through the use of a password. To help protect the confidentiality of your personal information, you must keep your password confidential, and not discolse it to any other person. You are responsible for your accoun t name, passowrd, and other user identifications (or ID) and access to any information made available on the Site by any person using your account name, password, or other user ID, and you acknowedge that it is solely your responsibility to maintain the confidentiality of your account name, password, and user ID and keep track of who is accessing your account information. If you suspect any unauthorized access of your account information, or if you believe your account name, password, or user ID have been compromised, notify us immediately.
7. OPTING OUT
If you do not wish to receive newsletters, action alerts, and similar noticies and information regarding CeaseFire and its activities, you may opt out of having your personal ifnroamtion shared with Sharing Organizations. Also, if you wish to change your contact or disclosure preferences at a later date, you may either login to your account settings online and update your contact preference or send us an e-mail (to the address below). In addition, you have the ability to choose whether or not to allow other users to contact you through online communications or e-mail. Please note, even if you opt out of receiving such information from CeaseFire, you may still receive operational e-mails relating to your account information, responding to any e-mail from you to us, notifying you of updates or changes to our policies and procedures, or that otherwise provide you with information we believe is important to users of the Site. Our systems require time to update, so your opt out requests may not update immediately.
Again, please remember that if you are a non-U.S. resident, we will not use your personal information beyond the purpose for which it was originally collected, regardless of whether you check or un-check a box.
8. SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING CHILDREN
a. Children Under the Age of 13 Years
The Site, the software and the Services are not designed for or directed to children under the age of 13 years. As such, CeaseFire does not knowingly provide memberships to or collect information from children under the age of 13 years, and except as otherwise requred by law, CeaseFire will not knowingly collect, maintain, or disclose any personal information from children under the age of 13 years. If you are under the age of 13 years, you may not create an account on the Site or submit any information to us through the Site.
b. Children Between the Ages of 13 and 18 Years
If you are between the ages of 13 and 18 years, please let your parent or guardian know about this Policy and get his or her permission before you give us any of your personal information or use any services available on the Site, like internet forums or message boards. Do not post your real name on a website, internet forum, or message board, and never tell anyone online anything private about yourself or your family, including your phone number and address. Use screen names at all times.
c. Information for Parents and Guardians
CeaseFire encourages parents and guardians to spend time online with their children to become familiar with the types of contenct avaialbe on the internet, including the Site. Parents and guardians should regularly oversee their children's use of the internet, internet forums, messae boards, and other online communications and transactional features. Control tools are available from online services and software manufactureres that can help provide a safe online environment for children.
If you are a parent or a guardian who has discovered that your child has submitted his or her personal information without your permission or consent, Ceasefire will take reasonable steps to remove that information from our database at your request. To request removal of your child's information, please send us an em-mail (to the address below) and be sure to include in your message the same account name (or user ID), password, and e-mail address that your child submitted, if any. If your child has used your credit card on the Site without your permission, contact us immediately here.
9. OTHER IMPORTANT AGREEMENTS THAT GOVERN YOUR USE OF OUR SITES, PRODUCTS, SERVICES AND SOFTWARE
In addition to this Policy, your rights obligations concerning our web sites, serivces, and software are governed by the applicable web site terms of use, if any, and other applicable policies, guidelines, and requirements. This Policy does not alter, in any way, the terms or conditions of any other agreement you may have with CeaseFire.
10. SECURITY OF THE PERSONAL INFORMATION WE HAVE COLLECTED
While CeaseFire takes precautions against possible breaches in its web sites and customer databases, no web site or internet transmission is completely secure. Consequently, CeaseFire cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, hacking, data loss or other breaches will never occur. Your use of the Sie is at your own risk. CeaseFire urges you to take steps to keep your personal information safe, for example, by memorizing your password or keeping it in a safe place (sseparate from your account information or user ID), logging out of your user account, and closing your web browser.
Whenever you give CeaseFire sensitive or confidential information, CeaseFire will eneavor to protect the information by establishing a secure connection with your web browser. Unless otherwise specified herein or on the sit where you make a contribution, credit card numbers are used only for payment processing and are not retained for marketing purposes.
11. NOTICE OF CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We reserve the right to revise and update this Policy at any time and in our sole discretion. Notice of any revisions or updates to this Policy will be posted in this section of the ite, and any such revisions or updats will be effective upon the posting of such notice, unless otherwise expressly stated. Your continued use of theSite after the posting will constitute your acceptance of those revisions and updates. Therefore, you should frequently review this Policy to understand the terms and conditions that govern use of information that you provide to us. If you do not agree to any revisions or updates to this Policy as they may occur, you must discontinue your use of the Site.
12. SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING RESUME SUBMISSIONS AND ONLINE JOB APPLICATIONS
CeaseFire may, from time-to-time, allow for the online submission of resumes and job applications. Please be advised that information (including personal information) contained in a job applicant's resume or otherwise submitted to CeaseFire in a business capacity is not subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy. The information obtained from your resume will only be used for the purpose of accepting and evaluating your submission for a job and contacting you in connection with that purpose.
13. LINKS TO OTHER WEB SITES
Links from the Site to third-party web sites are provided for your convenience. Any personal information you provide on the linked pages is provided directly to that third party and is suject to that third party's privacy policy, not ours.
