YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 22-year-old man was treated Friday night for a gunshot wound to the ear after a gang member unsuccessfully tried to rob him in the parking lot of a small market, police said.
Police said the victim was sitting in his vehicle when the suspect entered through the front passenger door about 8 p.m. and tried to rob him of money at the Mercado Latino, in the 900 block of North Fourth Street.
The suspect fired two rounds and tried to discharge the gun into the man's stomach before the victim was able to disarm him, police said.
The 19-year-old suspect fled, but he was quickly caught by officers who were nearby on an unrelated call. He was jailed on suspicion of first-degree robbery and assault.
The victim was treated at a city hospital and released.
Police said the suspect's gun was stolen in a burglary reported to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.
