Police search for suspect in Lynnwood drive-by shooting

LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- A Seattle man is fighting for his life after an early morning drive-by shooting in Lynnwood.

Police are still searching for the gunman as they continue to investigate the crime scene.

Police said the shooting happened near the the 6100 block of 200th Street SW just before 1:30 a.m.

Investigators say two men were walking to the store for cigarettes. They were coming from some type of gathering when a car pulled up and shots were fired.

One of the men, a 32-year-old Seattle man, was hit in the chest. The other man was not hurt.

"A car drove by and someone inside that car shot out at the victims. One of the victims was critically injured and has been transported to Harborview Medical Center," said Shannon Sessions, Lynnwood Police Department public information officer.

Beth Cox, who lives in a home right across the street from the shooting scene, said she recalls hearing some commotion before fallng asleep last night.

"I was up between 11 and 12 and just heard a lot of guys having fun outside, it sounded like," said Cox.

Officers said the suspect's car was last seen heading westbound. Officers combed the area and brought in a canine unit to look for a possible weapon, bullets or shell casings, but by sunrise officers had not found the person who pulled the trigger.

As police continue their investigation, they say they're confident the shooting was not a random act of violence.
